Greetings! My name is Kevin Fechtel. I’m a teacher from the United States. I’m 29 years old, finished my Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from the University of Central Florida) in 2016, and have been teaching full-time for a number of years in English, music, and mathematics. I also have advanced TEFL certification, and speak intermediate-level Mandarin Chinese.I am married, have a 2-year-old daughter, and will have another daughter in a few weeks! We just moved to Japan in September 2022, so I still cannot speak Japanese. My wife speaks Japanese very well though, and is from China.I have also done a lot of math and music teaching work; teaching music in Siping, China and mathematics in Orlando, Florida. I hope to meet you and connect with you! Thank you!Natural conversation builds many skills that theory can only attempt to explain. This goal cannot be reached instantly, but can be mimicked very early on. To reach the goal, we should have ‘natural learning’ as well. This means learning new words based on necessity, at the exact moment they need them, and remembering these words over time by hearing the teachers or other students.
02.What kind of lesson do you want to teach?
I want to teach lessons that have natural conversations and have humor! I believe the hardest skill in English is to understand jokes, because sometimes it depends on double-meanings of words (polysemy), putting stress on unusual parts of the sentence, and knowing the right contexts where the words are allowed to be used. This is very challenging! But, since it is humor, students are kept laughing, enjoying the lesson, and having fun!
My hometown is Grand Island, Florida, USA.
This is actually a hard question! I like extremely spicy jerky, sushi with lots of wasabi, and cheese-flavored popcorn. For desserts, hot brownies with ice cream or bread pudding are my favorites.
My biggest hobby is music. I played marching drums, drum set, piano, marimba, guitar, saxophone, and bassoon in middle and high school band, and played synth and drums in a punk-pop band in college. I have composed music since I was 11, and got a job as a music director for a video game company in Orlando when I was 22. I love using ideas from mathematics and language to make more beautiful music. My favorite activity within music is jazz improvisation on some instrument–usually piano. The feeling of making a song instantly, with no traditional music rules other than achieving a beautiful sound, is amazing.
